In this Module students' skills are applied to medical conditions. Their knowledge base is taken from a general understanding of the uses of hypnotherapy to specific medical/dental applications. They are also taught how to use hypnotherapy in a medical emergency.
The specifics of language in regard to medical hypnosis are delivered. Student trance skills are developed and include rapid inductions and the recognition of the state of consciousness of a person in a traumatic event or medical emergency.
Students learn to use hypnotherapy to minimise pain, bleeding, swelling, bruising and shock. They are taught to induce and recognise the Coma state and how to create anaesthesia. They deal with the areas of human sexuality, cancer, obstetrics and infertility, pre-surgical preparation, post surgical healing as well as many other medical conditions.
An up-to-date overview of psychopharmacology is delivered so that students have a cross reference to drugs that a potential client may be taking, and the knowledge of the appropriateness of using hypnotherapy with such clients.
Students undertake anatomy and physiology study in relation to hypnotherapy to empower their understanding of medical conditions and the physiological state that a client is in when under hypnosis. This is partly achieved by using a detailed on line self paced anatomy and physiology learning process, which is supported by an on-line tutor.
The module is supported by an extensive reading program, 50 hours of supervised clinical practice and case studies.
